Gazipur journo chased, hacked to death
The incident occurred around 8:30pm in front of the Chowrasta Mosque Market, where the victim had been sitting at a tea stall

A journalist was brutally hacked to death by unidentified armed assailants in the Chandana Chowrasta area of Gazipur city on Thursday night (7 August), hours after he reportedly went live on Facebook exposing extortion activities from street vendors.
The deceased has been identified as Asaduzzaman Tuhin (38), Gazipur staff reporter of Dainik Pratidiner Kagoj.
The incident occurred around 8:30pm in front of the Chowrasta Mosque Market, where the victim had been sitting at a tea stall.
Shaheen Khan, officer-in-charge of GMP's Basan Police Station, confirmed the incident and said, "We are working to determine the motive behind the killing and to identify those responsible."
Earlier in the day, Tuhin reportedly went live on Facebook, allegedly exposing extortion taking place among local vendors.
According to a local source, the incident took place near a tea stall, right below the second-floor office of journalist Tuhin.
Yesterday afternoon (7 August), Tuhin reportedly witnessed a group of armed men chasing a young man with sharp weapons. He began recording the incident on video.
Realising that they were being filmed, the attackers turned their attention to Tuhin and chased him. He ran into the nearby tea stall to take shelter, but three of the armed men entered the shop, dragged him outside, and hacked him to death in public. Two more attackers stood guard outside with large machetes.
Later that night, police collected CCTV footage from nearby areas. One of the video clips shows the armed men chasing a young man with machetes.
The attackers reportedly struck Tuhin repeatedly in front of bystanders, who did not intervene out of fear.
Later, police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to the Gazipur morgue for autopsy.
Correction:
Based on initial information from local sources, an earlier version of this report stated that journalist Asaduzzaman went live on Facebook Thursday afternoon to report on extortion from sidewalks and shops in the Chandana Chowrasta area. However, upon reviewing his profile, no such live broadcast could be verified.
Tuhin had gone live on Facebook earlier that day, sharing scenes of people struggling to move through flooded roads in the Chandna Chowrasta area. However, there was no mention of extortion or any other controversial subject in that livestream.
