Ex-NBR Chairman Nojibur’s Tk3.65cr flat seized, bank and BO accounts frozen

A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of a 3,276 square-foot luxury flat in the capital's Ramna area, valued at Tk3.65 crore, registered in the name of former National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman Md Nojibur Rahman.
In addition, the court directed the freezing of seven bank accounts and five beneficiary owner (BO) accounts held by members of Nojibur's family.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order today (29 July), following a petition submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Among the frozen assets is another flat, measuring 3,672 square feet and valued at Tk3.65 crore, located in Siddheshwari and registered in the name of Nojibur's son, Farabi NA Rahman. The court also froze bank and BO accounts held by Nojibur's wife, Nazma Rahman, and his sons, Farabi NA Rahman and Fuad NA Rahman.
According to the ACC's petition, a formal inquiry is underway against Nojibur on charges of amassing wealth illegally through bribery, corruption, and manipulation of government transfers. An investigation officer has been appointed to probe the allegations and submit a report.
During the course of the inquiry, the ACC identified substantial movable and immovable assets in the names of Nojibur and his immediate family. A review of documents found no lawful sources of income corresponding to these assets, the ACC said.
The ACC, citing reliable intelligence, stated that the family had attempted to transfer or dispose of the properties, including through informal money transfer networks such as hundi — raising the risk of capital flight and significant financial loss to the state. The court was therefore requested to seize and freeze the assets to preserve the integrity of the investigation.
Nojibur was arrested on 7 October last year from the Ramna area and has remained in custody since.
