Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (investigation) Brigadier General (retd) Hafiz Ahmed Farid has urged everyone to be united and join the war against corruption.

"Corruption is not only a disease in the society but also a weapon of exploitation," he said while addressing the 176th public hearing of the commission at Hason Raja Auditorium of Sunamganj Shilpakala Academy.

The ACC arranged the public hearing with the help of local administration and the district Anti-Corruption committee.

"The ACC is a catalyst organisation against corruption, and it is not possible for the anti-graft body to succeed alone," he said.

The students and the people of the country taught the entire nation how to lead mass protests during last year's mass uprising, he said, urging all to be vocal against corruption.

Farid urged the people of Sunamganj to be conscious of corruption and expressed his hope that the district will be free from bribery and corruption within one year.

Chaired by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Sunamganj Dr Mohammad Elias Miah, the public hearing was addressed by ACC Director General (Prevention) Md Akter Hossain, Police Super Tofail Ahmed and Deputy Director of the ACC district integrated office Rafi Md Nazmus Sadat, among others.

The speakers of the public hearing paid tributes to the martyrs of last year's July-August uprising, urging all to be conscious of building a corruption- and discrimination-free society.

A total of 45 allegations were raised against 18 government offices in today's public hearing.

Of the allegations, six were resolved instantly, while authorities concerned were instructed to resolve other allegations within three to seven working days.
