The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against former member of parliament from Narsingdi-2 constituency Kamrul Ashraf Poton and four others over embezzlement of government's fertiliser worth Tk1,084 crore.

Akhtarul Islam, deputy director of ACC, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard today (7 May).

Earlier on 23 December 2024, a Dhaka court placed Poton on a three-day remand in a case lodged with the capital's Paltan Police Station over the murder of Jubo Dal leader Shamim.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter passed the order as police produced Poton before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand.

Police arrested the former lawmaker from Keraniganj area on 19 December last year.
