Starlink in Bangladesh: All residential, roaming packages, prices and how to get them

The satellite internet service of Elon Musk announced its arrival in Bangladesh in an X post, while Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, special assistant to the chief adviser, announced the packages and detailed pricing in a Facebook post this morning (20 May).

Faiz said Starlink users with the Starlink Standard Kit are able to get up to 300Mbps speed, and there will not be any speed limits.
According to the Starlink website, there are two types of connections— Residential and Roam — in Bangladesh.
Residential connection is meant for those using the internet from one specific location, while Roam is for those who are always on the run.
The Residential connection has two packages. The Residential package is available at Tk6,000 per month, and the Residential Lite package is available at Tk4,200 per month.
The more expensive Residential package has higher priority, while the more affordable Residential Lite package has a lower priority.
Residential connection users also have to spend Tk47,000 on hardware to buy the Starlink Standard Kit to avail themselves of its services. The standard kit comes with a satellite dish, its mounting tripod, Wi-Fi router, and all necessary cables.
While the price is still expensive compared to the typical broadband or mobile data packages, it is cheaper than many had anticipated.
The roaming features
Starlink is well-known for its compact roaming features. It means being able to carry the device with you wherever you want. Starlink also has a fits-in-your-backpack type compact Starlink Mini Kit, priced at Tk24,000.
However, it comes with some speed and volume limitations and has higher monthly fees.
For 50GB roaming data, you would need to pay Tk6,000 per month to Starlink, according to its website.
Meanwhile, the unlimited roaming package is priced at Tk12,000 per month, double that of the Residential.
Users can also avail themselves of roaming services with the Standard Starlink Kit as well, if they are willing to carry the device around.
The roaming features work in any country that has Starlink services. However, the speed is limited to 100 Mbps if you choose the Starlink Mini Kit.
Moreover, Starlink might restrict your service if it's used for more than two months abroad or in unauthorised regions.
NoC from govt needed
During a press briefing at the capital's Foreign Service Academy, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb said a no-objection certificate (NoC) will be required from the government to take Starlink connections.
He said Starlink has to pay $1 to the Bangladesh government in each connection monthly to remain tax and VAT compliant.
The special assistant added that Starlink also paid the government a yearly fee of $30,000.
How to place the order and install
Ordering Starlink from Bangladesh is a straightforward process. Users would need to visit starlink.com, and click on either Residential or Roam based on what they want.
The price on the homepage is written in US dollars and might look a lot expensive than what this article says.
But once you select your desired subscription type, you can select the address (for Residential) or country (for Roam), and you will see the price chart for Bangladesh.
From there, it's just a matter of selecting the desired packages and placing the order.
Starlink kits are designed for self-installation; the user needs to connect everything together and set the satellite in a location that has direct access to the sky in order to avail the services.
According to the Starlink order page, the product will take around three to four weeks to ship.
Mounts and accessories
Both the Starlink Standard Kit and Starlink Mini Kit come with all necessary equipment. However, Starlink also offers additional mounts and accessories on its website.
It lists Pivot Mount priced at Tk6,700, Wall Mount priced at Tk5,900, and Pipe Adapter at Tk2,600.
