CA orders formation of high-level committee to ensure fair price for sacrificial animal hides

Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus today (4 May) directed the authorities concerned to form a high-level committee to ensure fair pricing for sacrificial animal hides during the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha.

"For years, people have been deprived of the fair value of sacrificial animal hides, and the worst sufferers are the underprivileged who depend on selling these hides. This mismanagement must come to an end," the chief adviser said at an inter-ministerial meeting at the State Guest House, Jamuna.

Pointing out the existence of syndicates controlling the hide market, he said, "We will make every effort to prevent any group from depriving citizens of their rightful earnings."

Yunus also instructed authorities to ensure no cruelty is inflicted on animals during their transportation and sale in cattle markets and emphasised proper use of Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) during hide processing.

To implement these directives, the chief adviser ordered the formation of a high-level committee led by Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin.

The committee will also include Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar, Industry Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Information Adviser Mahfuz Alam, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Home Affairs Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Special Assistant on Home Affairs to the Chief Adviser Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (Bida) Ashik Chowdhury, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Shafiqul Alam, Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Md Obaidur Rahman, along with representatives from religious institutions and leather traders.
