ACC conducts drive at 36 LGED offices

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched simultaneous drives at 36 offices of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), including its headquarters in Dhaka's Agargaon and various district and upazila offices.

The ACC began separate operations from around 10am today (29 April), confirmed ACC Deputy Director Akhtarul Islam to The Business Standard.

According to the ACC's Public Relations Department, an ACC team started the drive at the LGED headquarters in Agargaon this morning.

The ACC has stated that detailed information regarding the operations will be provided upon completion of the drives.

Meanwhile, in Rajshahi, an ACC conducted a raid at the chief engineer's office at LGED this morning.

During the raid, ACC members entered Chief Engineer Zhurul Islam's room and, in his presence, searched through various project files and documents related to government work.

They made inquiries and interrogated him. Afterwards, they also questioned various LGED officials and employees.

Officials and employees of Rajshahi's LGED have been accused of irregularities, corruption, and arbitrary practices in various government projects.

Yesterday (28 April), the ACC filed two separate cases against four engineers and two contractors of the LGED on charges of corruption and embezzlement in the construction of two separate road development projects in Tangail's Nagarpur upazila.
