ACC sues former IGP Nur Mohammad, wife over graft allegations

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against former inspector general of police (IGP) and former Kishoreganj-2 MP Nur Mohammad and his wife Ismat Ara Begum over allegations of possessing undeclared wealth.
ACC Director General Akhter Hossain confirmed the development to reporters today (3 June).
The cases were filed by ACC Deputy Assistant Director Abu Mohammad Anwarul Masud at the commission's integrated district office in Dhaka.
According to the first case statement, Nur Mohammad is accused of amassing assets worth Tk1.16 crore beyond his known sources of income by misusing his official position for personal gain.
Investigations also revealed suspicious transactions totaling approximately Tk16.42 crore across 17 of his bank accounts, said the statement.
In the second case, Nur Mohammad's wife Ismat Ara Begum is charged with acquiring Tk1.14 crore in assets beyond her known income, allegedly influenced by her husband's misuse of power.
She is also accused of conducting suspicious transactions amounting to Tk18.95 crore across 21 bank accounts.
