Man killed 6 days after filing case over daughter's rape in Barguna
Locals and family members believe that he was murdered because he refused to withdraw the rape case

A man was killed six days after he filed a case over the rape of his seventh-grade daughter in Barguna.
Police recovered the body in an abandoned place behind the deceased's house in the Kalibari Karaitala area of Barguna municipality in the early hours of today (12 March), said Barguna Sadar Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Md Abdul Halim.
The deceased, Montu Chandra Das, 35, was an employee of a chicken shop in a local market. Locals and family members believe that he was murdered because he refused to withdraw the rape case.
ASP Abdul Halim said four people have been detained so far for questioning over the incident.
"Initially, it is believed that he was strangled to death. More details will be known after investigation. Necessary measures will be taken to arrest those involved and take legal action," he added.
The deceased's wife, Shikha Rani, said, "A group of people violated my daughter so we filed a case. They were pressuring us a lot to withdraw the case. I think they killed my husband because we did not do so."
The deceased's sister, Kanak Rani, said, "I spoke to Montu on the phone yesterday evening. I also warned him that the accused in the rape case could do something bad. Montu also said he was scared. I told him to be careful. Then, at night, I heard that my brother's body was found.
"It is a murder."
Police said Montu's daughter was raped after being kidnapped on her way to school. A case was filed with Barguna Sadar Police Station over the incident on 5 March. An accused in the case, Sajeeb Chandra Roy, was arrested on the same day.
