Thirteen fishermen were rescued after being stranded at sea for four days. The Coast Guard were informed about the stranded fishermen by someone from the national emergency hotline 999.

The fishermen were rescued along with their trawler 'MV Ma-Babar Doa' around 2pm yesterday (5 March), confirmed Media Officer of Coast Guard's Mongla Headquarters Lt Commander Md Siam Ul Haque today (6 March).

"A call came through 999 yesterday noon with someone informing us that 13 fishermen had been stranded at sea for four days due to the engine failure of their trawler. Through the call, we came to know that the trawler's location was approximately 10 nautical miles West from Alorkol in Sundarban's Dublarchar," said the Coast Guard official.

"Being informed, a four-member team of the Coast Guard's Mongla West Outpost launched a rescue operation immediately and brought the 13 fishermen to the shore after locating their trawler," the commander added.

The media officer also said they have informed the owner of the trawler about the incident, who will repair the trawler at Dublarchar and take it to Barishal later.

The trawler took the fishermen to the sea from Barishal's Patharghata 12 days ago. The engine stopped working after eight days, and the food items stored in the trawler were also running out, Coast Guard said quoting the fishermen.
