A 22-year-old was killed in a mob attack suspecting him to be a mugger in Tongi area of Gazipur yesterday (25 February) night, said police. 

The identity of the youth could not be known yet.

Police said locals caught the youth on suspicion of a mobile phone lifter in the Station Road area around 9pm and took him to nearby Machhimpur Balur Math.

At one stage of interrogation, the mob beat him badly, leaving him dead on the spot, police said.

Officer-in-Charge of Tongi Purbo police station Faridul Islam said being informed they recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.

An unnatural death case was filed in this regard, he said, adding that they could not detain anyone until today (26 February) morning.
