Launch of drone invented by AAUB students

On February 25, 2025, the drone invented and designed by Aviation and Aerospace University Bangladesh made its successful maiden flight at BAF Lalmonirhat tarmac.
Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, BBP, OSP, GUP, nswc, psc, GD(P), Chief of Air Staff Bangladesh Air Force, was present as Chief Guest and observed the event.
The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) has been organising the most prestigious competition in the world on 'Design Build and Fly (DBF)' every year since 1996. From the beginning, this competition has been considered an essential platform for aerospace engineering students worldwide. Selected students of Aviation and Aerospace University Bangladesh (AAUB) will participate in the competition for the first time on April 06 2025, taking up the challenge of designing, building and flying the invented aircraft. A drone was designed for the competition by the university's DBF team to carry another glider with its payload and operate using the aerodynamic properties of the glider without any engines of its own. This drone will be used in automated surveillance, disaster management, agriculture, and other sectors. Inventing such a modern drone was very challenging in a remote area like Lalmonirhat, where limited facilities were used and under the overall supervision of Vice Chancellor Air Vice Marshal A K M Manirul Bahar, OSP, BSP, NDC, home, afwc, psc, ADWC and Chairman of Aerospace Department Group Captain Saifur Rahman Bakaul, acsc, psc, PhD, Engg a team of 35 members successfully discovered the drone through a long effort.
Various research and innovation activities are ongoing at the university. In line with this, 02 prototype drones have already been discovered, and their taxi and flight tests have been completed. The students at this university's innovative ability is expected to brighten the future of the aerospace industry in Bangladesh.
