Hallmark Group MD Tanvir Mahmud passes away at DMCH
According to a press statement issued by Dhaka Central Jail, Tanvir died at around 10:30pm.
Hallmark Group Managing Director Tanvir Mahmud, who had been serving a jail term in connection with the Hallmark loan scam, passed away on Saturday night (29 November) while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). He was 55.
According to a press statement issued by Dhaka Central Jail, Tanvir died at around 10:30pm.
Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khalid Mansur also confirmed the death to The Business Standard.
Prison authorities said Tanvir, who had long been suffering from multiple health complications, including chronic kidney disease (CKD), hypertension, diabetes, benign prostatic enlargement (BEP), bronchial asthma, chronic pancreatitis, vomiting, and urinary retention, was transferred to the hospital after his condition deteriorated.
He was sent from Dhaka Central Jail to DMCH on 29 November at 1:35pm, jail officials said.
On 19 March last year, a Dhaka court sentenced Tanvir Mahmud to life imprisonment in a case related to the infamous Tk4,000 crore Sonali Bank loan scam on false documents.
