Canals being filled by garbage dumped from multi-storey buildings: Ctg mayor
Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Shahadat Hossain has expressed concerns that the canals in the city are being filled by garbage dumped from multi-storey buildings next to the canals.
"The city corporation started cleaning the canals after taking charge last November. After a month, we saw that the canals were filled with garbage again," he said while speaking at a workshop on climate adaptation planning for low-income people today (25 February).
The workshop was organised as part of a planning process jointly conducted by WaterAid, Dushtha Shasthya Kendra, and Global Center on Adaptation at the city's Zilla Parishad auditorium.

The mayor announced an initiative to raise awareness among school students to combat the issue of garbage dumping.
"We need to create public awareness. We need to work together. That's why I'm starting an awareness programme with children of 100 schools. It [environmental awareness] has to be taught from childhood," Shahadat said.
