Bangladesh, Kyrgyzstan discuss to strengthen bilateral ties

Bangladesh and Kyrgyzstan today (7 February) discussed to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Bangladesh's Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic (resident in Tashkent, Uzbekistan), Dr Mohammad Monirul Islam, met with Kyrgyz Deputy Foreign Minister Temirbek Erkinov at his office, reads a press release.

The meeting focused on the progress of bilateral relations and future areas of cooperation.

Highlighting the cultural and religious connections between Bangladesh and Kyrgyzstan, Ambassador Monirul emphasised the importance of exchanging visits at both government and private sector levels.

He also drew attention of the deputy foreign minister to finalise the proposed agreement on visa-free travel for diplomats and government officials.

Describing economic cooperation as a key pillar of two countries' relations, Monirul underscored the need to establish a joint economic and trade commission at the government level to enhance collaboration.

He also expressed his support for signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the chambers of commerce of both countries to facilitate business cooperation and exchanges.

To expand existing educational cooperation between Bangladesh and Kyrgyzstan, the ambassador sought the deputy foreign minister's assistance in ensuring the safety and security of Bangladeshi students studying in Kyrgyzstan.

He also urged faster processing of their visas and consular services.

Temirbek Erkinov expressed satisfaction with the progress of bilateral relations and conveyed his intention to organise a Foreign Office Consultations in Bishkek at a mutually convenient time this year.

Welcoming the ambassador's proposals for boosting economic collaboration, he stressed the need to expedite agreements and MoUs related to taxation, investment, and tourism.

He also reaffirmed his government's commitment to ensuring the security and well-being of Bangladeshi students and workers engaged in various projects in Kyrgyzstan.

Later, Ambassador Monirul Islam held a meeting with leading Kyrgyz business figures, where he highlighted the vast potential for trade and cooperation between the two countries in sectors such as textiles, ready-made garments, and pharmaceuticals.

He extended an invitation to a Kyrgyz business delegation to visit Bangladesh at a convenient time.
