The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has failed to locate the office of Awami League-backed Center for Research and Information (CRI), during a raid conducted in the capital's Dhanmondi area.

"After obtaining CRI's registered addresses from various sources, we have searched both the Awami League office at Dhanmondi 32 and another location at 6/A, Dhanmondi, but failed to find the office," ACC Deputy Director Raju Ahmed told The Business Standard today (4 February).

However, during the investigation, the ACC found that CRI holds a fixed deposit of Tk35.21 crore in IFIC Bank.

In a press statement, ACC Director General (prevention) Akhtar Hossain said, "The raid was conducted based on allegations that the CRI board of trustees had misused state funds to execute political agendas.

He further revealed that according to documents, Hasina's son Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed (Joy) serves as CRI's chairman, her daughter Saima Wazed Putul as the vice-chairman, and Sheikh Rehana's son Radwan Mujib Siddiq (Bobby) and former state minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid as trustees.

The ACC team also collected information from banks where CRI had accounts, including Dutch-Bangla Bank, IFIC Bank, and Sonali Bank.

"Upon reviewing the information, it was found that CRI holds a fixed deposit [FDR] of Tk35.21 crore in IFIC Bank," said the ACC director general.

"Additionally, records of financial transactions from Sonali Bank were also obtained. The enforcement team will now analyse the gathered documents and transactions in detail," he added.
