A case has been filed against seven individuals, including an Indian national, over the fatal stabbing of a Bangladeshi farmer near the Kulaura border in Moulvibazar.
The deceased, Ahad Ali, 45, was attacked while farming in the Aolachhara Basti area of the Murai Chhara border, Karmahdha union, yesterday (26 January) afternoon.
Ahad's wife Jamirunnesa filed a case earlier today (27 January) at Kulaura police station, naming seven people, including Indian national Haider Ali, and four to five more unidentified individuals.
Confirming the incident, Kulaura police station Officer-in-Charge Golam Apchar, said that Ahad had a dispute with Indian nationals over land.
"Indian national Haider Ali and his associates reportedly entered five yards into Bangladeshi territory and stabbed Ahad Ali indiscriminately. Locals rushed him to Kulaura Government Hospital. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College, where he succumbed to his injuries," he said.
The FIR names Haider Ali as the prime accused, along with other Indian and Bangladeshi individuals.
Shahin Ahmed, a local union parishad member, stated that Haider Ali was related to Ahad Ali through family ties, but the exact nature of their land dispute remains unclear.
Silvester Pathang, another union parishad member, mentioned that Ahad's father-in-law's house is in India. Locals allege that the dispute stemmed from land belonging to Ahad's in-laws. The incident occurred inside Bangladeshi territory, according to him.
Following the incident, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) lodged a formal protest with the Indian Border Security Force (BSF).
Ahad Ali's body remains at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College for an autopsy. Investigations are ongoing.
