Babul Kazi, the grandson of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, has been placed on life support at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS).

He was admitted to NIBPS with 74% burns on his body at 6:30am yesterday (18 January) and subsequently shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Bulbul's condition deteriorated and he was placed on life support at around 8pm yesterday, confirmed Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, a resident physician at the NIBPS Emergency Department.

A 19-member medical board has been formed to oversee his treatment. However, doctors are yet to formally disclose the cause of Bulbul's severe burn injuries.

Babul Kazi, aged 59, is the youngest of three children and the son of renowned recitation artists Kazi Sabyasachi and Uma Kazi. His elder sisters, Khilkhil Kazi and Misty Kazi, are both citizens of Bangladesh.
