Young Tigresses start U-19 T20 World Cup in style with commanding win over Nepal

Bangladesh began their U-19 Women's T20 World Cup campaign with a resounding victory, defeating Nepal by five wickets.

Nepal, after being invited to bat first, struggled against Bangladesh's bowlers, who bowled them out for just 52 runs. Bangladesh then chased down the modest target of 53 runs in 13.2 overs, losing five wickets but with 40 balls to spare.

Opting to field first after winning the toss, Bangladesh's bowlers quickly took control of the match. Jannatul Mawa and Fahmida Khatun shone with the ball, as Nepal's batters had no answers to their spin.

The Nepalese side crumbled early, losing five wickets for just 30 runs, including the crucial dismissal of captain Pooja Mahato, who had been instrumental in guiding Nepal to the World Cup.

Nepal's innings was ultimately restricted to 52 runs, with their top scorer, Sanaa Praveen, managing just 19 runs.

Bangladesh's bowling attack was relentless, with Mawa taking 2 wickets for 11 runs in 4 overs. Fahmida, Nishi Akter, and Anisa Akter also claimed one wicket each.

While chasing the target, Bangladesh faced a brief scare as they lost three quick wickets, reducing them to 11 for 3. However, a steadying partnership between Sadiya Islam (16) and captain Sumaiya Akter (12) helped guide the team closer to the target.

Afia Asima Ira and Jannatul Mawa completed the chase, ensuring Bangladesh reached 53 runs with 40 balls to spare.

The win marked a perfect start for Bangladesh, who had shown strong form leading into the tournament, with victories over Sri Lanka and England in their preparation matches.

In their next fixture, Bangladesh will face Australia.
