Police arrested five individuals for illegally acquiring four cars worth Tk3 crore in separate drives in Dhaka, Gazipur and Narayanganj last night (14 January).

During the drives, police recovered the four cars from the possession of the arrestees.

Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Ibne Mizan confirmed the matter.

The arrestees are Zarak Ahmed, 38, Abul Kalam Riftiar, 38, Jamir Hossain, 36, Sajal Ahmed, 30, and Abdur Rahman alias Rubel, 56.

"An individual named Md Imdadul Haque Khan alias Nowshad has a car showroom at the capital's Tejgaon. AB Drive Limited Chairman Zamir Hossain and Managing Director Zarak Ahmed took four cars from this showroom assuring of paying later between 26 November and 4 December," Deputy Commissioner Mizan said.

"The duo took the cars to their showroom at Pragati Sarani. However, when asked for payment, they declined and issued threats. Upon investigation, Imdadul discovered that the cars had been moved to another location to avoid payment of Tk3 crore owed to AB Drive Limited," he added.

On 5 January, Imdadul filed a fraud case with Tejgaon Industrial Police Station against Zamir, Zarak and 2-3 others.

"The five individuals were arrested based on secret information and using technological tools. The four cars have been recovered, and the suspects have admitted to relocating the vehicles with each other's assistance," said the officer.
