MyTV Chairman Nasir Uddin placed on 5-day remand
The remand application noted that Nasir Uddin had carried out "malicious and vindictive activities for his own and Awami League's ignoble interests"

A Dhaka court has granted a five-day remand for Nasir Uddin Sathi, chairman and managing director of private television channel MyTV, in connection with the killing of Asadul Haque Babu during the July Uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zia Uddin Ahmed passed the order today (18 August) following a hearing.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Inspector Khan Md Erfan, the investigation officer (IO), had earlier sought a seven-day remand for Nasir Uddin for questioning.
In the remand application, the IO wrote that Nasir Uddin Sathi, as the chairman and managing director of MyTV, took a stance against the student-people uprising with his provocative statements and broadcasting activities, acting as an "obedient accomplice" to the former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her Awami League government.
The application states that an investigation found that the victim, Asadul Haque Babu, 24, died from indiscriminate gunfire by "local Awami League criminals, political leaders, workers, and law enforcement agencies" who were allegedly inspired by Nasir Uddin's provocative actions.
The remand application further noted that due to his "unethical influence and power," Nasir Uddin had carried out "malicious and vindictive activities for his own and Awami League's ignoble interests."
The IO stated that a thorough interrogation of the accused is necessary to uncover the full details of the crime, identify other unknown suspects, and unravel the mystery of the case.
Nasir Uddin's lawyers argued for the cancellation of the remand petition and sought bail, while the Public Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon argued in favour of the remand.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted a five-day remand.
Nasir Uddin Sathi was arrested from Gulshan, Dhaka yesterday (17 August).
According to the case statement, Asadul Haque Babu participated in a demonstration in the Jatrabari area on 5 August last year during the July Uprising. At around 2:30pm, he was hit in the chest and on his right side by bullets.
He was pronounced dead by doctors after being taken to a hospital. The victim's father, Zainal Abedin, filed the murder case with Jatrabari Police Station on 30 August 2024, naming ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 25 others as accused.
Nasir Uddin Sathi was listed as the 22nd accused, while his son, Tawhid Afridi, was the 11th accused in the case.
