Fake uniforms, IDs, medical card: Man held over impersonating army, police, RAB officers
DB says suspect used fake IDs, uniforms, recruitment notices and even an army medical card to dupe jobseekers
The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested a man accused of impersonating senior army, police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officials and taking money from jobseekers by promising them government jobs.
A team of the DB's Ramna division arrested the accused, Md Nurul Chowdhury, 40, around 3:40am today (11 August) during a raid in the Sunday-Society residential area on Bhuiyanbari-Bashtala Road in the capital's Uttara.
DB chief and Additional Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam disclosed the information at a briefing at Minto Road this afternoon.

Shafiqul said the DB seized two walkie-talkies and two sets of chargers, a fake passport, fake ID cards identifying Nurul as an army major and a RAB deputy director of colonel rank, three Android phones and 10 army uniforms from his possession.
The DB also seized army medical books, various forms and pads, passport-size photographs of Nurul dressed as an army major and a police superintendent, fake army recruitment notices and job application forms, he added.
According to the DB chief, Nurul allegedly introduced himself at different times as a lieutenant colonel, police superintendent, deputy commissioner or RAB director and targeted jobseekers with promises of government jobs.
"He [Nurul] took money from them promising jobs and even handed some victims fake appointment letters. He also entered into written contracts with some people for the promised jobs," Shafiqul said.
In response to a question, he said Nurul had used fake advertisements to collect money through pay orders and bank drafts.
"He also prepared a fake army medical card containing various seals and information to make the fraud appear credible," the DB chief added.
According to DB sources, Nurul allegedly ran the scheme with the help of accomplices, using aliases such as "Major Al Mamun", "Colonel Nazim" and "Major Tanvir" to promise army jobs, including positions as soldiers, cooks and office attendants.
A fraud case is pending against him with Dhaka's Shah Ali Police Station, while further legal proceedings are underway, the DB chief said.
