Bangladesh coast guard awarded national fisheries medal 2025

The Bangladesh Coast Guard has received the prestigious 'National Fisheries Medal 2025' for its exceptional role in protecting the nation's fisheries resources.
The award was presented by the Honourable Chief Advisor to Rear Admiral Md. Ziaul Haque, Director General of the Coast Guard, at the opening ceremony of National Fisheries Week 2025, held on August 18 in Dhaka. Senior government, military, and fisheries officials attended the event.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq, Media Officer of the Coast Guard, confirmed the award, noting that this is the second time the force has received the National Fisheries Medal.
The Coast Guard has been playing a crucial role in protecting marine biodiversity by conducting regular operations against illegal fishing, preventing the use of prohibited nets, curbing unauthorised entry of foreign vessels, and raising awareness among coastal communities.
"This recognition highlights the Coast Guard's relentless and effective efforts in ensuring sustainable fisheries resource management across Bangladesh's maritime, coastal, and riverine areas," said Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq.
This year's Fisheries Week is being observed under the theme "Build sanctuaries, fill the country with native fish". The medal awarded to the Coast Guard is regarded as a significant milestone in the nation's efforts to enhance fisheries security and promote sustainable practices, aligning with the government's priorities.
