Following the upheaval of the July Uprising, acclaimed actress Zakia Bari Mamo made her return to the set with several projects. Among them, her role in the web film 'Ondhokarer Gaan', released on 8 January, stands out as particularly noteworthy.

Directed by Vicky Zahed, the film casts Mamo as Rumali, the central female character, earning her widespread praise. Rumali's story unfolds in a rural backdrop, where she lives with her child and ailing mother-in-law, while her husband, Mukul, works in the city and sends money home regularly.

However, Mukul becomes involved with another woman and is drawn into a shadowy world through his association with the influential Idris Ali. At the same time, Rumali is forced into immoral actions to make ends meet. Despite being a city native, Mamo's convincing portrayal of this complex character resonated with audiences, earning acclaim for its authenticity and emotional depth.

"The experience [of playing Rumali] was enriching. I've previously worked with Binge, and Vicky Zahed is undoubtedly a talented director. This project will always remain a significant milestone in my acting career," said Mamo.

Mamo has often shared the screen with Mosharraf Karim, one of Bangladesh's most renowned actors throughout her career. Their collaboration extends to 'Ondhokarer Gaan', where Karim's role as her co-star further enhances her performance.

"Every time I work with Mosharraf Bhai, it's a valuable learning experience," Mamo shared. "Each collaboration with him has been remarkable, and this film was no exception. I genuinely hope to work with him repeatedly, as he is an outstanding co-actor."

Mamo is currently immersed in shooting Eid dramas and other projects, expressing her optimism about the industry's recovery. "Our industry faced a temporary slowdown, but things are back on track now. I'm confident that we'll soon present exciting projects to the audience," she shared.

With notable achievements in television dramas, theatre, and films, Mamo has seamlessly transitioned to the rapidly growing OTT platform. Discussing the differences between traditional TV dramas and OTT content, the National Film Award-winning actress remarked, "The contrast is clear. OTT has brought a fresh perspective to storytelling, and many of us are eagerly exploring this medium."

Meanwhile, the cultural sector in Bangladesh is undergoing significant reforms following the July Uprising. These initiatives aim to tackle inequalities and authoritarian practices, with committees working to implement meaningful changes.

Reflecting on this transformation, Mamo said, "Culture is integral to humanity. It's vital to focus on what truly benefits people. I believe Bangladesh will continue to progress through dedication and creativity."
