Cricketers to ask for due payment

After a long break, cricket is finally returning with the Test between England and West Indies. But the situation in Bangladesh has only worsened and thus there is no chance of cricket returning here soon. 

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have thought of starting practice but they are yet to come to a decision. The cricketers want cricket to return but as it is not any time soon, they are working on their fitness at home. 

The cricketers have all fallen into a dire state not only mentally but also financially as cricket is completely off the field.

In such a state, the players have decided to ask for their due 50% salary from the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) clubs. The decision was announced by the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (Cwab) on Tuesday after a meeting.

A press release from Cwab said that they held a meeting on Tuesday night. Cwab President Naimur Rahman Durjoy, Vice-President Khaled Mahmud Sujon, ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal, T20I skipper Mahmudullah Riyad, Shahriar Nafees, Abdur Razzak and other cricketers were present at the meeting. Also, BCB Director and CCDM Chairman Inam Ahmed and BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury joined the meeting. 

Different matters regarding the future series of Bangladesh national team and the Premier League were discussed in the meeting. The decision of demanding the due 50% payment was passed unanimously. Except for that, BCB were requested to start cricketing activities with DPL, once the situation returns to normal.

DPL had to be postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic after only the first round. But according to the rules, the players have to be paid even if the tournament is postponed. Transfer rules say that the players will have to be paid 50% of their payment up front after signing the contract but only a few players from Prime Bank, Abahani Limited and Prime Doleshwar have received it. Cwab is set to request CCDM to look into this matter.
