HC clears way for Tamim-led BCB ad-hoc committee
The order was passed by a High Court bench comprising Justice Fatema Najib and Justice AFM Saiful Karim
The High Court yesterday (21 May) removed from its cause list a writ petition seeking to halt the formation of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) ad-hoc committee led by former national captain Tamim Iqbal, effectively clearing the way for the committee to continue functioning.
The order was passed by a High Court bench comprising Justice Fatema Najib and Justice AFM Saiful Karim.
Confirming the development, BCB lawyer Mahin M Rahman said the 11-member ad-hoc committee would continue its activities and the BCB election is scheduled to be held on 7 June.
The writ petition had been filed by former BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul and Faruk Ahmed along with 12 directors, including Asif Akbar, Khan Abdur Razzaq, M Nazmul Islam, Nazmul Abedin Fahim and Khaled Mashud Pilot.
The respondents in the case included the Youth and Sports Secretary, National Sports Council (NSC), Tamim Iqbal as chairman of the ad-hoc committee, the BCB secretary, chief election commissioner Mohammad Hossain, CID Additional IGP Sibgatullah, the NSC executive director and the International Cricket Council.
The petitioners sought a rule questioning the legality of dissolving the elected BCB board and forming the ad-hoc committee, alongside a plea to stay its activities.
