Fulham secure first win at Stamford Bridge since 1979 with dramatic late strike

Fulham ended a 45-year wait for a victory at Stamford Bridge by defeating Chelsea 2-1 on 26 December.

Rodrigo Muniz scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner to complete a remarkable comeback, leaving Chelsea's Premier League title hopes in jeopardy.

Chelsea looked on course to maintain their dominance over their west London rivals when Cole Palmer opened the scoring in the 16th minute. The forward showcased his skill by weaving past defenders and slotting the ball through Issa Diop's legs into the bottom corner, marking his 12th league goal of the season.

Despite their early lead, Chelsea struggled to build on their advantage, squandering possession and failing to capitalise on key opportunities.

Fulham grew into the match after the break, showing resilience and determination. Their persistence paid off in the 82nd minute when Harry Wilson, unmarked in the box, headed home to level the score.

It was Fulham's first goal at Stamford Bridge in over a decade, setting the stage for an intense finale.

The decisive moment came in the 95th minute. Sasa Lukic delivered a low cross into the penalty area, and Muniz, left unmarked, swept the ball into the net, sparking wild celebrations among Fulham players and supporters.

The victory was not only historic but also significant, propelling Fulham to eighth place in the table with 28 points from 18 matches.

Chelsea, on the other hand, find themselves four points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, who have two games in hand. The defeat compounds a disappointing week for the Blues, following a draw with Everton, and highlights their struggles during the festive period.

It was Chelsea's first league loss since October, and their third defeat of the season.

For Fulham, the win marked a turning point in their campaign. It was their first victory at Stamford Bridge since 1979 and only their third triumph over Chelsea in 35 Premier League meetings.
