The four deceased were identified as Abdur Rashid, his wife Bokul Begum, his brother-in-law Bidda Mia, and Bidda's daughter-in-law Laboni Akter. All four hailed from the Kailati union of Netrokona Sadar upazila.

According to police and other family members, the victims were going from Gazipur's Sreepur to Netrokona to visit Rashid's ailing father-in-law.

Bidda and Laboni died on the spot, while the other four including the auto-rickshaw driver were rushed to the hospital. Rashid and Bokul succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

The bodies will be handed over to the family members after autopsies, said police.

Bidda Mia's wife Lovely Begum and auto-rickshaw driver Md Antar Mia are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Highway police official Sanjay said the truck was impounded but the driver managed to flee.
