The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is poised for a return of two of its most iconic stars, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr, in the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday.

Scheduled for release on 1 May 2026, the blockbuster promises to deliver major surprises, with Downey Jr. stepping into the role of Doctor Doom and Evans reprising his legendary character Steve Rogers, reports The Hindu.

The film, directed by the celebrated Russo Brothers, will continue to expand the multiverse storyline introduced in Avengers: Endgame.

Fans are abuzz with speculation about how Evans and Downey Jr's characters will fit into the evolving narrative.

Reports suggest Downey Jr. will portray a variant of Tony Stark, while Evans' Steve Rogers could also be a multiverse version, raising questions about the storyline's complexity.

Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson remains the MCU's official Captain America, adding intrigue to Evans' rumoured return. The multiverse's impact on the characters' arcs is expected to challenge established fan perceptions.

Avengers: Doomsday will feature the MCU's newly cast Fantastic Four. The iconic team includes Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm.

This announcement follows Evans' recent cameo as Johnny Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine, where he revisited his role from Fox's Fantastic Four films.
