Titas Gas today (5 December) demolished a kiln of a lime factory in Narayanganj's Fatullah for allegedly using gas worth nearly Tk1 crore annually through illegal means.

"During a day-long raid, led by district Executive Magistrate Monabbar Hossain, a kiln of an illegal lime factory was demolished," Masud Rahman, Titas Fatullah branch manager, told The Business Standard.

Earlier, attempts were made to conduct a raid on the factory, but due to the influence of powerful people, it could not be done, he alleged.

He further said, "The factory illegally used gas worth Tk7,00,000 monthly, amounting to nearly Tk1 crore annually.

"Additionally, a house's illegal gas connection has been disconnected in the Kutubpur unions's Taltola area," he added.

When asked if any fines were imposed during the raid, the branch manager said, "Those who were using gas illegally fled during the raid. As a result, no one could be fined."
