Govt to form advisory committee with experts for newly created Revenue Policy Division
The committee will comprise economists, revenue experts, legal professionals, accounting and auditing specialists, representatives from business organisations and relevant professional bodies, as well as delegates from the Tariff Commission and concerned government ministries or departments
The government is set to establish an advisory committee on revenue policy to provide regular advice to the newly created Revenue Policy Division in policymaking.
Yesterday (13 May), President Shahabuddin promulgated the ordinance abolishing the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and creating two separate entities — the Revenue Policy Division and the Revenue Management Division.
According to the ordinance, the committee will comprise economists, revenue experts, legal professionals, accounting and auditing specialists, representatives from business organisations and relevant professional bodies, as well as delegates from the Tariff Commission and concerned government ministries or departments.
The government will define the committee's specific responsibilities and the duration of its members' service, adds the ordinance.
Earlier in December last year, the NBR reform committee, in its report, recommended forming an independent revenue commission to focus solely on revenue policy formulation with input from stakeholders.
The reform commission proposed the formation of a permanent advisory council within the proposed revenue commission.
According to the commission's report, the proposed revenue commission will develop policies aligned with the government's development strategies, stakeholder input, and international best practices.
