During the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971, a football team named "Swadhin Bangla Football Dal" was born.

The team took part in football matches in different parts of India to build public opinion in favour of the Liberation War and to raise money to help the freedom fighters.

It is said that in the history of the world, it was the first football team formed during a war. The team comprised 34 players, a manager and a coach.

Jakaria Pintu was the captain of the team while Protap Shankar Hajra was the vice-captain. Tanvir Majharul Islam Tanna served the team as its manager while Nani Basak was the coach.

Impress Telefilm is making a film on this football team.

The story of the film named "Damal" was written by Faridur Reza Sagar while Director Raihan Rafi along with Nazim-Ud-Doula have written the script.

A bunch of stars are acting in it. They are Bidya Sinha Saha Mim, Shariful Raj, Siam Ahmed, Sayed Babu, Rashed Mamun Apu, Shahnaz Sumi, Lux Star Athai, Puja and Brishti.

The shooting of the film has been going on in Saiddpur since November 25. From there, the director shared his experience with The Business Standard.

"The shooting is going very well. Everyone in the area is very cooperative. But the weather is very cold here. Besides, there is the fear of Covid-19. Overall, we are working in a bit of difficult situation," said the director.

Rafi did not want to disclose any other detail regarding the story of the film.

However, he said in an earlier interview, "The team played a total of 16 matches in different places. It donated Tk5 lakh earned from these matches to the Liberation War fund. The audience will see these types of events in the film."

Abu Shahed Emon, creative producer of the film, said, "It is a different kind of work from Impress Telefilm. Preparations for it have been going on for a long time. Swadhin Bangla Football Team is a rare witness of the Liberation War  and next year marks the 50th anniversary of our independence. So we are optimistic about the film. The work is also progressing very well. All the stars are working very hard. I think the viewers will enjoy the multicasting film on our Liberation War."

He added that they had a plan to release the film next year.
