Game Of Thrones: Why The Original Daenerys Actor Was Recast

English actress Tamzin Merchant was cast to play the Mother of Dragons for the HBO popular series "Game of Thrones". She ended up appearing in an totally unaired episode before her role was recast.
The initial "Game of Thrones" first episode named 'pilot' was filmed in 2009 but was never made public. The pilot was directed by Thomas McCarthy.
HBO was less than enthused with it so they ordered creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss to do a complete reshoot. Aside from redoing the script, the network recast roles like Catelyn Stark and Daenerys Targaryen.
McCarthy was given a "Consulting Producer" credit on the first episode.
