Breaking Bread: From online bakery to Wari’s ‘instragrammable’ food hub
Breaking Bread is gaining popularity for its pink interior and aesthetic backdrop, making it perfect for pictures and celebrations. But what about its food?

Once an online-only bakery, Breaking Bread has now blossomed into a full-fledged restaurant, quietly rewriting the rules with its pastel interiors, charming decor and comforting menu.
With its soft pink ambience and subtle elegance, the place invites people to taste more than just food — it is about experience, aesthetics, and a hint of nostalgia.Located in Wari, the restaurant has grown into a sit-down spot that merges a calm aesthetic with hearty food.
"Our owner spent a long time abroad, so she wanted an ambience that reflects that. The pinkish design and atmosphere are her ideas, and honestly, it suits our theme and products really well," said Rafiqul Islam Ariyan, the manager of Breaking Bread.
Atmosphere and ambience
Breaking Bread sets itself apart from other eateries in Dhaka with its visual appeal. The interiors are soaked in soft pink, floral accents, and warm lights, making it a go-to for aesthetic Instagram posts, birthday celebrations, and group outings. The vibe is mellow yet elegant, with thoughtful design touches that reflect the owner's international sensibilities.
However, the one drawback is the service speed. During the visit, there were noticeable delays in getting the food on the table. While staff were polite and the setting inviting enough to soften the wait, the kitchen's pace could use some fine-tuning, especially during peak hours.
A story in every bite
But what makes Breaking Bread compelling is its backstory. It's not a chain, not a product of aggressive branding, but the result of five years of careful growth, customer feedback, and a passion for quality. Starting from Mirpur as an online-only bakery to setting up shop in Wari's physical food scene, it reflects ambition without losing its homely touch.
"Our roots are in baking. We've always focused on taste and presentation, but we also realised that people want a place to come, sit, enjoy good food, and celebrate moments. That's what we're trying to offer here," says Ariyan.
While the visual appeal draws people in, especially those looking for aesthetic photos or birthday backdrops, it is the food that keeps them returning.
To get a true sense of what the restaurant offers, TBS sampled several dishes from the menu.
Creamy Grilled Chicken Pasta

The standout dish is undoubtedly the Creamy Grilled Chicken Pasta. A best-seller for good reason, it is creamy without being overly rich, layered with a gentle punch of black pepper, and served in a portion generous enough to satisfy. The grilled chicken is flavourful and well-cooked, making it a dish that comfortably hits the mark.

Cream of Mushroom

This dish makes for a solid opener. Served warm in a decent portion, it delivers a consistent, if somewhat standard, taste. It is neither too thick nor too watery — a good palate starter for those easing into a heavier meal. The earthy flavour of mushrooms comes through nicely, though it could benefit from a touch more seasoning or depth to truly stand out. Still, it does the job well as a light and comforting beginning.

Oreo Milkshake

You can have the Oreo milkshake as both a dessert and a drink. Creamy, cold and sweet, it is a finely blended indulgence that balances Oreo crumbs and ice cream beautifully. However, it is too thick — so much so that sipping it is a struggle; you will likely need a spoon to scoop it. It blurs the line between drink and dessert, and while delicious, a little more milk might make it easier to enjoy the meal.

Vanilla Blueberry Cake Slice

The Vanilla Blueberry Cake slice delivers most of what it promises. Sweet, moist, and well-presented, the slice leans more towards vanilla and sponge than blueberry or cream. The blueberry flavour, while present, is subtle and could use a bit more punch to balance out the richness of the sponge. There's minimal cream, and the fruit content feels more decorative than functional, but the overall texture is satisfying. The cake is dense yet soft, and the decorative touches, from the frosting swirls to the light dusting on top, make it visually appealing. Still, it tastes good and matches the aesthetic identity of the place.

Biscoff Mini Cheesecake

The biscoff mini cheesecake does not quite live up to expectations. It's dry and lacks the rich cheesiness one would hope for in a proper cheesecake. The flavours are muted, and the base does not hold much character. For its price, it feels like the weakest link on the menu—more bland than bold.

Chicken Supreme Pizza

Chicken supreme pizza has a crispy crust, generous toppings, and a tantalising aroma. It's a satisfying dish ideal for sharing. There's ample cheese and meat, creating a hearty bite in every slice. The chicken pieces are tender and well-seasoned, while the combination of bell peppers, onions, and olives adds both colour and crunch.
The cheese pulls are picture-perfect, and the base is neither too thick nor too thin, having the right balance between crunch and chewiness. While it could benefit from a pinch more salt to bring out the full depth of flavour, it's otherwise a well-balanced, comforting option that showcases the kitchen's strengths.
It's the kind of pizza that does not try to be overly fancy, but has taste, texture, and satisfaction.
