Local government expert Prof Tofail Ahmed passes away at 71

Local government expert and former professor of Public Administration at Chittagong University Tofail Ahmed has passed away at the age of 71.
Dr Md Fazlarabbi Khan, general manager of Communication and Business Development at United Hospital Limited, confirmed the news of his death.
Tofail Ahmed breathed his last around 9:30pm on Wednesday (8 October).
His body is currently kept at the hospital.
His son-in-law Lieutenant Colonel Sarowar Jahan told The Business Standard, "He passed away around 9:30pm at United Hospital in the capital. He had blockages in his heart and was also suffering from lung complications. We brought him to the hospital to have a stent placed in his heart. This afternoon, he was taken to the operating theatre for the procedure, but his condition deteriorated during the operation. He was then placed on life support, and at around 9:30pm, doctors declared him dead."
According to family sources, his funeral prayer (janaza) will be held at 11am on Thursday at his ancestral village in Chattogram.
He will be laid to rest in the family graveyard following the janaza.
Professor Tofail Ahmed had served as the head of the Local Government Reform Commission, playing a key role in shaping policies and advancing the country's local governance system.
He is survived by his wife and a daughter.
