The fancy street foods of Rajshahi might give you a hint about how creative the ‘locals’ are

The innovation and the rawness that goes with street foods can tell you a lot about a place and its people which may be missing in cookbooks. 

Hence, the fancy street foods of Rajshahi might give you a hint about how creative the 'locals' are. Let's have a look into a few must try street foods when you are travelling to Rajshahi. 

1.    Puri Burger

Puri burger is an incredible regional adaptation of traditional burger. The patty is made of pakora and singara flakes mixed with tomato sauce.

A piece of lemon squeezed on it in the end adds a fresh flavour.

In Rajshahi New-market there are two adjoining shops with different owners where you will get Puri burger. Their strategies of who can 'allure the new customer into his shop' can make you feel like a VIP for the time being. Per burger costs Tk15 only. 

Here another unique food is available named 'Vangchur.' This is basically smashed shingara served with onion and tomato sauce. It is available in the morning and gets sold out within a very short time. So if you get to enjoy Vangchur consider yourself a really lucky person.  

2.    Seekh Burger

Seekh burger was born when east fell in love with the west. Especial spicy seekh kebab wrapped in smoked bread served with coriander sauce can fill your evening with more colours in Rajshahi. 

A place named 'Sadhur Mor' in Rajshahi is the birth place of Seekh burger. They make burgers in the evening but the wait is worth the time. 

Recently some others have adopted the idea too and they are doing well too. 

Therefore, chicken seekh burger of Rajshahi University campus is a new addition available at Tk25 only. 

3.    Bot Porata

Bot Porota of Talaimari in the evening is one of the oldest street foods of Rajshahi city. 

Talaimari is an accessible place for the students of both Rajshahi University and Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology. Students gather there with guitar and enjoy their evening to the fullest in tea stalls. 

Chatting over a plate of Bot and Porata only at Tk65 and Tk5 is what they need for dinner and conversation.

Bot porata is also available in 'Alupotti.' 

4.    Sajjad's Vaja and Lebuchur

Sajjad, a young boy, who roams around with his blue van spreading happiness in Rajshahi University campus. 

He owns some secret magical recipes that will always put a curve on your face be it with Barovaja or Nimki. 

His unique 'Lebuchur' became so famous that foodies of the town use to visit the campus only to have Lebuchur. 

Lebuchur is a preparation of lemon cut into small pieces mixed with crushed Nimki and Sajjad's special seasonings in it. 

He is so passionate that watching him making Lebuchur creates a craving for the snack. 

5. Kaliza Singara of Haji

Kaliza Singara of Haji restaurant is not a street food. But it is so good that you should not miss it. In fact, two restaurants –Haji and Tripti, of Laxmipur in Rajshahi city have commendable Kaliza Singara available at Tk10 only. 

They also get sold out within 12:00-1:00pm.

6. Shashlik

Nothing would be able to beat the appeal of Shashlik of NFC cart in Laxmipur that comes with real cube of chicken garnished with onion and carrot at Tk30 only. It is a perfect evening snack for a traveller. 

Other than these foods you must try Luchi Porata of Jorakali restaurant in Malopara for breakfast or Malai Tea of Barnali Mor with evening snacks. 

These are some most popular street food one must never miss in the city of Rajshahi. There are more foods for the foodies left.

Let us talk about some sweet now. Bangladesh-is are sweet lovers.

Rajshahi people are as passionate about desserts as they are for foods. Let's have a look on must have desserts in Rajshahi.

Here are some popular sweets of the city.

Ranar's Sweet

Ranar's Sweet on Cnb, Ranibajar is available in every evening. The speciality is that it is served directly from the hot pan to you. Per piece costs Tk15 only.

People who are visiting Rajshahi, must not miss the sweet as it is one of the most popular item to taste in the city. The shop running business for four generations and became a food legacy of the city.

In an alley beside an ancient couthouse, Rana Ghos carries on a family legacy to perfect mishit, the Bengali sweets that nourish a nation's happiness.

Chhanar polao

While coming back home from Rajshahi bring Chhanar polao from Noborup located in the centre of the city's Saheb Bajar for your family. This is a kind of sweet rice which is actually not madew of rice.

Yes!  The sweet is made of soft chhana in the shape of basmati rice and cooked as sweet rice.

This is a heavenly sweet which is loved by all over the country. Because of the popularity of the sweet, it is now available all over Bangladesh. Though the Rajshahi special one taste special too.

The smile in their faces will give you happiness. Chanar Polao is Tk220 per kg only.

Batar Morer Jilapi

Jalebi or Jilapi of Batar mor is one of the oldest traditional dessert of the city. During Ramadan people get crazy over this jalebi.

Though the craftsman Kalibabu died in 2017 leaving his secret recipe to the descendants. How gracefully descendants are carrying out the legacy reflects on the ever uprising popularity of Batar Morer Jabeli. Batar Morer Jilapi is also known as Ranibazar Restaurant.
