Around 200 bhori gold worth nearly Tk5cr stolen from Rajshahi jewellery shop, claims owner
The incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday (19 June). The owner also claimed that 1,200 bhori of silver was taken during the break-in.
A theft has taken place at Karushree Jewellers in the Saheb Bazar Swarnapotti area of Rajshahi, with the shop owners claiming that around 200 bhori of gold worth nearly Tk5 crore and Tk25 lakh in cash were stolen in the incident.
The incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday (19 June). The owner also claimed that 1,200 bhori of silver was taken during the break-in.
According to sources, thieves first broke the lock of Afia Jewellers, located beside Karushree Jewellers on the ground floor of Abashik Swarna Hotel. They then entered through Afia Jewellers and cut the shared wall to enter Karushree Jewellers and took gold ornaments, silver items and cash. Afia Jewellers had no stock at the time, they said.
CID and forensic teams of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police visited the scene and collected evidence.
Bajus Rajshahi district president Md Ashraful Islam Opu said around 200 bhori of gold, 1,200 bhori of silver and Tk20 lakh were stolen. He also said all jewellery shops will remain closed indefinitely until the stolen items are recovered and those involved are arrested.
Boalia Police Station OC Robiul Islam said police are investigating the incident and evidence has been collected.
