Alfamart, operated by Indonesia's PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk, is one of Southeast Asia's largest convenience retail chains, running more than 27,000 outlets across Indonesia and the Philippines under brands such as Alfamart, Alfamidi, Lawson, and DAN+DAN, employing over 150,000 people
The company specialises in fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), offering a wide range of food, beverages, personal care, and household products through both company-owned and franchised stores.
Alfamart is making its entry into Bangladesh through a joint venture with Kazi Farms Group, one of the country's leading conglomerates, and Japan's Mitsubishi Corporation, a global business giant with deep roots in the Asian retail industry.
According to project insiders, the joint venture will begin with a $50 million foreign investment in its first phase, followed by an additional $70 million in the second phase.
In 2024, Alfamart reported revenues of over $6 billion, marking steady year-on-year growth. The group's expansion beyond Indonesia reflects its strong operational model, advanced inventory management systems, and focus on women-inclusive employment—around 40% of its workforce are women.

In 2014, Alfamart had 7,000 branches in Indonesia catering to an average of 2.5 million customers daily. The company reported to have over 14,000 branches by the end of 2019, according to media reports.
After its success in Indonesia, Alfamart expanded into the neighboring country of the Philippines. Its entry into the Philippine market was made through a partnership with SM Investments Corporation, launching its first branch in Trece Martires, Cavite in June 2014.
In 2020, Alfamart in the Philippines started expanding into the Visayas and Mindanao regions, particularly in Cebu, Davao, Cagayan de Oro and Zamboanga. By the end of 2024, there are now 2,100 branches in the Philippines with a plan to add 200 more in 2025.
