The women behind the magical wand, JK Rowling has turned 54 and the author doesn’t plan on letting age act as a barrier to stop her from having fun.

Born in Gloucestershire, England, the author led an amazing life full of adventures and excitement. The wizardess of magical potions had a life that was full of ups and down but the author never lead anything come in her way of pursuing her dreams.

Here are some interesting facts about the beautiful author.

  • JK Rowling wrote her first story at the age of 6 called ‘Rabbit’ and her first novel at the age of 11.
  • She was rejected by Oxford University and then pursued her love for French in the University of Exeter.
  • Her real name is Joanna Rowling but the mysterious ‘K’ has always been a mystery to her fans and followers. Apparently her publisher, Bloomsbury suggested her to add initials on Harry Potter books and so she used the ‘K’ to act as a tribute to her grandmother Kathleen.
  • After the success of her Harry Potter series, Rowling had to use a disguise to buy her wedding dress in 2001.
  • It took Joanne good five years to plan all the seven books in the Harry Potter series. Most of her plans were written by hand on odd scraps of paper. Her last book’s epilogue was written in 1990.
  • The ‘King’s Cross station’ in the Harry Potter series had an integral meaning to the author. Her parents , James and Anne, first met at the London station when they were just 18 and later on got married a year later.
  • Rowling’s prized possession is none other than the first edition of Jane Austen’s books.
  • The author has promised her editor that she wouldn’t read the controversial, ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’
  • Rowling’s favourite chapter from the Deathly Hallows is chapter 34 called “The Forest Again”.
  • She was enlisted as first female billionaire novelist in 2011 but was later on removed from Forbes’ list after giving around £100 million to charity.

Rumours were rife that the author would be writing four more Harry Potter stories but the writer stated in her blog that she will be composing four short non-fiction eBooks under the publication of Pottermore Publishing. The eBooks contains no new material by J.K. Rowling and are bite size e-reads, each themed by Hogwarts lessons.
