Bangladesh signs agreement with Nepal for exporting urea
Industries secretary said considering the needs of the people of Nepal, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave instructions for this cooperation

The Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) signed a bilateral agreement with Krishi Samagri Company Limited (KSCL) of Nepal on Thursday to export urea fertiliser to the government of Nepal.
Under the agreement, Karnaphuli Fertiliser Company Limited (Kafco) will procure 50,000 tonnes of urea from Bangladesh and export to the government of Nepal, for around Tk109.74 crore.
The agreement marked the beginning of a new chapter in Nepal-Bangladesh cooperation in agriculture. Bilateral ties in the field of industry and trade will be further strengthened if the Preferential Trade Agreement, which is under negotiation with Nepal, is signed, reads a press release.
On the occasion, Industries Secretary KM Ali Azam said considering the needs of the people of Nepal, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave instructions for this cooperation.
He said even though Bangladesh imports fertilisers to meet its own needs, the country has extended the hand of friendship by signing the agreement to export fertilisers to the urgent needs of the friendly neighbouring country Nepal.
Noting that Bangladesh attaches utmost importance to bilateral relations with Nepal, the industries secretary said both the countries would benefit from the new level of cooperation that has been added between the two countries through fertiliser cooperation which will continue in the future.
In his speech, Dr Banshidhar Mishra, ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh, expressed his special gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her cooperation.
Referring to Nepal and Bangladesh as true friends of each other, he said, "Nepal cooperated with Bangladesh in the great liberation war of Bangladesh. Bangladesh has always stood by Nepal in any disaster too."
He said it was time to use the relations between the two countries for the welfare of the people.
BCIC Chairman (Additional Responsibilities) Mohammad Amin ul Ahsan and Managing Director of KSCL Netra Bahadur Bhandari signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.
Senior officials of the Ministry of Industries, BCIC and Kafco, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development of Nepal were present on the occasion.
