Four exporters honoured at HSBC Export Excellence Awards 2025
Four leading Bangladeshi exporters were recognised at the HSBC Export Excellence Awards 2025 for their outstanding contributions in promoting Bangladesh globally and supporting sustainable economic growth.
The awardees were Ulkasemi Pvt. Limited, NZ TEX Group, Flamingo Fashions Limited, Janata Jute Mills Limited, and Sadat Jute Industries Limited.
The awards ceremony, held today (7 December) at a Dhaka hotel, marked the ninth edition of HSBC's flagship initiative celebrating the country's top exporters. The event was supported by the Ministry of Commerce and the British High Commission in Dhaka.
Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin attended as the chief guest, British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke as the special guest, and Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur as the guest of honour.
Central bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur underscored the critical importance of exports for the country's economic survival.
"With a competitive export policy, we need to develop exports as a more diversified sector. Exporters must make greater use of the opportunities available to them," he said, adding, "I am proud of those who have received awards, because their contributions are playing a significant role in the economy. Asian countries are showing strong performance in exports."
Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin highlighted the resilience of Bangladesh's exporters. "When any Bangladeshi product goes abroad and carries the label 'Made in Bangladesh,' it signifies credibility. We are committed to expanding our exporters' global presence," he said.
British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke reaffirmed the UK's strong trade ties and commitment to supporting Bangladesh's export-led growth, highlighting the UK's long-standing role as a partner in sectors including finance, fashion, energy, and education. "HSBC, with its global expertise, exemplifies the UK-Bangladesh partnership in action," she said, praising the bank's support for green financing and digital trade initiatives.
She also noted the UK's ongoing efforts to enhance Bangladesh's ease of doing business, including modernising customs procedures and providing duty-free access under the Developing Countries Trading Scheme, which will continue until 2029. Post-LDC graduation, Bangladesh will transition to the "Enhanced Preferences" tier, retaining duty-free access for 92% of tariff lines, including garments.
Beyond trade, the UK is investing in Bangladesh's development through British International Investment and UK Export Finance, offering £2 billion for projects in infrastructure, renewables, and aviation.
"The collaboration between our countries demonstrates that together, we can build a future that is innovative, resilient, and green," the High Commissioner concluded.
Md Mahbubur Rahman, CEO of HSBC Bangladesh, lauded the exporters' grit and ambition, noting that the entrepreneurs present contributed approximately 35% of the nation's total exports. He emphasised the need for strategic evolution to achieve greater market diversification and maximise the benefits of existing and future preferential trade agreements.
