Barishal City Corporation approves 200 building plans
Barishal City Corporation has cleared a backlog of 200 building construction plans submitted in 2024 and 2025, underscoring renewed momentum in urban development and a commitment to transparent service delivery.
The approvals were granted in accordance with the Building Construction Rules, 1996, and formally handed over to applicants at a ceremony at the auditorium beside Shaheed Minar on 30 April.
Barishal City Corporation Administrator Advocate Bilkis Akhter Jahan Shirin attended as chief guest and presented the approved plans.
She personally distributed documents to approximately 40 applicants in attendance.
The city corporation said the initiative demonstrates its commitment to transparency and integrity in service delivery.
Speaking at the event, Bilkis Akhter Jahan Shirin reaffirmed that reducing public inconvenience and making civic services more accessible, efficient and transparent remain core commitments of the city corporation.
"By finalising the approval process for long-pending designs, we have advanced towards achieving that goal," she said.
She added that adherence to building regulations is essential for planned urbanisation, and emphasised that the city corporation will maintain a firm stance on compliance.
BCC Chief Executive Officer Md Rezaul Bari, Secretary Rumpa Sikder, Chief Revenue Officer Raihan Uz Zaman, Executive Engineer Maksumul Hakim Reza and Architect Md Saidur Rahman Lusan were among the officials present.
Officials noted that approving a substantial number of plans simultaneously will remove stagnation and inject fresh impetus into urban development initiatives.
They added that the initiative is expected to enhance compliance with building regulations and improve the quality of citizen services.
