ACC raids BSEC's Surveillance Department over alleged irregularities

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has once again conducted a raid at the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities.
A four-member ACC team, led by two assistant directors, launched the raid at the BSEC headquarters at 11:30am on Monday, focusing on the Surveillance and Monitoring Department.
According to sources, the ACC investigators first met BSEC Chairman Khondoker Rashed Maqsood before proceeding to inspect various departments, including surveillance operations.
Following the raid, ACC Assistant Director Raju Ahmed told reporters that BSEC's surveillance system was found connected to an unauthorised external room, raising concerns over potential information leaks that could lead to market manipulation.
Additionally, he pointed out irregularities in the Regulatory Information Systems Software (RIMS) under the Capital Market Development Programme, a project initiated in 2018 with a budget of Tk28 crore. The software, meant to enhance market oversight, was neither installed nor utilised, and its Project Completion Report (PCR) was never filed.
"We need to verify the records further and will discuss the matter with Project Director Saifur Rahman," added the ACC official.
Earlier, on 2 March, the ACC had raided the BSEC and is now preparing a detailed report on the irregularities found during these inspections.
