WFP urges public support for ramadan fundraiser in Bangladesh
As Ramadan continues, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has called on the public to support its ongoing fundraising campaign for families facing food insecurity in Bangladesh.
Under the campaign, people can donate directly to WFP through its official bKash account – 01322846197, account name: World Food Programme – using the Donation section of the app. Donations can also be made online through the campaign link.
Prominent figures, including chef and writer Kishwar Chowdhury, have joined the initiative to amplify the campaign. Kishwar rose to prominence in both Australia and Bangladesh following her appearance on MasterChef Australia Season 13 in 2021.
"This Ramadan, I stand with WFP in its life-saving and life-changing work for Bangladeshi communities affected by hunger and at high risk of climate shocks," Kishwar said. "Every contribution will support WFP's work across the country, with a focus on women and children facing food and nutrition insecurity."
Food insecurity remains a major challenge in Bangladesh. According to the 2025 Integrated Food Security Phase Classification analysis, around 16 million people were facing severe food insecurity, with many at risk of slipping into emergency conditions without sustained assistance.
The analysis said severe food insecurity often means families skip meals, eat less nutritious food or go entire days without eating because they cannot afford or access enough food. The findings underscore the need for continued support to protect lives and livelihoods as climate shocks and economic pressures persist.
"In the spirit of Ramadan, we invite everyone to extend generosity to families struggling to meet their basic food and nutrition needs," said Simone Parchment, country director a.i. of WFP Bangladesh. "Every taka given will help families weather emergencies and move towards food security and resilience. We thank Kishwar and other public figures who have joined this effort."
