Universal Menswear Ltd. launches 814 kWp rooftop solar power system

Universal Menswear Ltd. (UML), South East Asia's largest formalwear manufacturing plant, has successfully launched an 814 kWp rooftop solar power system at its state-of-the-art facility in Adamjee Export Processing Zone (AEPZ).
This significant step forward in Bangladesh's green industrial transformation showcases UML's unwavering commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency.
The solar power system, which has been operational since July 5 and was officially inaugurated on July 26, is a major milestone in UML's environmental strategy. Funded under the Bangladesh Bank's Technological Development Fund (TDF), this initiative is integral to the company's broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework.
The expansive 60,000-square-foot solar array comprises 1,335 high-performance Longi 610Wp solar panels, paired with seven SMA 110 kW inverters. It is projected to generate approximately 950 MWh of clean energy annually, helping reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 637 tons per year.
This sustainable energy project further complements UML's achievement of LEED Gold Certification in August 2023 and accelerates its drive toward LEED Platinum status.
Sharif Zahir, Managing Director of UML, shared his thoughts: "This solar project is a bold step toward a greener future, reinforcing our role as a responsible leader in apparel manufacturing. We are proud to show that environmental stewardship and world-class production can go hand in hand."
Founded in 2010, Universal Menswear Ltd. has become a leading global supplier of formalwear, with a monthly production capacity of 300,000 men's suits. The company employs over 6,000 people and generates an annual turnover of USD 100 million. Known for its quality craftsmanship, UML serves major global brands, including Moss Bros, Marks & Spencer, H&M, Calvin Klein, Ben Sherman, Kenneth Cole, and Zara.
As Bangladesh's industrial sector advances, UML continues to lead by example, demonstrating that global manufacturing excellence and sustainability can go hand in hand.
