UIU introduces AI health platform to promote preventive healthcare

United International University (UIU) held a breast cancer awareness seminar, 'From AWARE to EMPOWER', and launched its AI-based healthcare platform, 'Susastho', for the UIU community on 8 October 2025 at its campus.
The seminar raised awareness about breast cancer risks and emphasised the importance of early detection. Speakers highlighted how timely risk assessment and regular screening can significantly improve treatment outcomes and reduce mortality rates.
The event officially launched Susastho, a pioneering digital health platform developed by CMED Health Ltd as a research-to-commercialisation venture of UIU's Institute of Research, Innovation, Incubation and Commercialisation (IRIIC).
The integrated platform gives UIU's faculty, staff and students access to a range of services, including health education, personalised risk assessment, preliminary screening, telemedicine consultations and continuous follow-ups. A dedicated dashboard enables doctors at the UIU Medical Centre to proactively monitor patient health and allows administrators to make data-driven health policy decisions.
The event featured Professor Dr M A Hai, senior cancer specialist and president of the Oncology Club, as the Chief Guest, along with Dr Ali Nafisa, consultant in oncoplastic breast surgery, Dr Mustak Ibn Ayub, associate professor of genetic engineering and biotechnology, and Dr Shamima Akter, senior medical officer at UIU, as special guests. They addressed the breast cancer landscape, future oncological care, surgical advancements and genetic factors in cancer.
Special guests included Dr Ali Nafisa, consultant in oncoplastic breast surgery, and Dr Mustak Ibn Ayub, associate professor of genetic engineering and biotechnology, who spoke on surgical advancements and genetic factors in cancer. Dr Shamima Akter, senior medical officer at UIU, was the Guest of Honour. Professor Khondaker A Mamun, Director of IRIIC and founder of CMED Health, demonstrated the platform's features, while Dr S M Rafiqul Islam, Head of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, delivered the vote of thanks.
