AIUB team joins renewable energy training in Italy

A delegation from American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) attended a five-day international training programme on smart renewable energy at Politecnico di Milano in Italy.

The programme, the second international training initiative under the SOHO Erasmus+ Project, was organised as part of the project's capacity-building activities, according to a press release.

Professor Dr Md Abdur Rahman, Pro Vice Chancellor of AIUB, led the delegation.

The other members of the delegation were Professor Dr Md Saniat Rahman Zishan, Director of the Faculty of Engineering; Dr Chowdhury Akram Hossain, Head of the Department of Computer Engineering; and Abir Ahmed, Special Assistant at the Faculty of Engineering.

Participants from partner institutions in Bangladesh, Malaysia, Vietnam and Europe attended the training, which focused on strengthening technical knowledge and practical skills in renewable energy technologies, particularly photovoltaic systems.

Faculty members and researchers from Politecnico di Milano conducted lectures, laboratory sessions, practical exercises and group activities.

Dr Alessandro Niccolai opened the training with a session on electrical quantities and the fundamental concepts needed to understand renewable energy systems.

Professor Sonia Leva followed with a session on photovoltaic systems, covering solar energy technologies, system components, operating principles and the role of photovoltaic energy in advancing sustainability.

Alejandro González Moreno then led practical training at the SolarTechLab, where participants worked with photovoltaic modules, measuring instruments and other laboratory equipment.

Professor Dr Emanuele Giovanni Carlo Ogliari then conducted sessions on the performance analysis and preliminary design of photovoltaic systems.

Dr Nicoletta Matera then discussed methods for assessing the economic viability of photovoltaic systems, including investment analysis, cost-benefit assessment and feasibility studies.

Michael Wood then conducted a practical session on estimating photovoltaic energy production using open-access tools and geographical and environmental data.

Participants also visited the Sustainable Simulation Lab at Politecnico di Milano with Professor Dr Michela Longo and her research team.

The programme concluded with a dinner organised by Politecnico di Milano and attended by Dr Vladimir Tanasiev, Coordinator of the SOHO Erasmus+ Project.

AIUB said its participation reflected the university's commitment to international collaboration, academic development and sustainable technologies.
