Telenor sees long-term role in Bangladesh’s digital transformation
Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer, President and Chief Executive Officer of Telenor Group, met with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in Dhaka today to discuss Telenor's support for Bangladesh's digital transformation.
The Telenor delegation, present at the meeting, included Yasir Azman, Chief Executive Officer of Grameenphone, as well as senior representatives from both Telenor and Grameenphone.
During the meeting, Fasmer referenced Telenor's nearly three-decade presence in Bangladesh. The discussion noted confidence in the nation's readiness for a digitally driven future, with attention to the youthful population, increasing digital adoption, and an expanding innovation ecosystem.
She also noted Bangladesh's strategic importance to Telenor in Asia and the company's role as a long-term partner in the country's digital development. Telenor expressed its intent to expand connectivity, support digital inclusion, and invest in skills and capabilities that contribute to economic growth.
Further to this commitment, the meeting also addressed the need to equip young Bangladeshis with future-ready skills—particularly in artificial intelligence—to broaden access to skilled employment and support the government's wider development ambitions, including its vision of building a $1 trillion economy by 2034.
In line with the shared goal of a safer, smarter tomorrow, Telenor and Grameenphone acknowledged Bangladesh's long-term potential and their intent to continue contributing to the nation's digital development.
Finally, the meeting further underscored the need for a predictable, investment-friendly regulatory and policy environment to accelerate sustainable progress and unlock the full value of digital connectivity for society.
