TEDxDhanmondi: YouthQuake 1.0 inspires young changemakers

Dhanmondi hosted its first-ever TEDx event, titled TEDxDhanmondi: YouthQuake 1.0, on Saturday at the Rupayan Trade Center, celebrating ideas, innovation and youth empowerment.
Presented by Shanta Mutual Funds, the day-long event brought together young changemakers, students and professionals under the theme "Unleashing the Power of a Generation". The programme aimed to inspire Bangladesh's youth to drive meaningful change and create social impact.
Representatives from Shanta Mutual Funds, the event's title sponsor, reaffirmed their commitment to building a financially inclusive future for young Bangladeshis. The Education Doorway, another partner, highlighted its role in supporting students pursuing higher education overseas.
The event featured eleven distinguished speakers from diverse fields who shared personal stories of resilience, creativity and purpose.
Renowned cartoonist Mehedi Haque opened the session by sharing how rediscovering his passion for art turned deadlines into freedom. Md Abdul Quayyum, Head of Communications at UNDP Bangladesh, discussed sustainability, describing it as 'humanity's unpaid debt to Mother Earth'.
Other highlights included musician Gazi Fahmid on empathy through art, Nur-A-Shafee Ahnaf on cancer awareness and textile revivalist Md Ayub Ali, who spoke about reviving the lost Muslin heritage.
Social entrepreneur Shah Rafayat Chowdhury encouraged giving back to society, while Tanvir Ahmed Teyder inspired attendees to embrace small yet transformative changes.
One of the most powerful moments came from Mohammed Abdullah, a deaf rights activist, who delivered his message in sign language: 'In childhood, I cried in silence. Now I speak with my hands, and the world listens'.
