Smart Air Bangladesh wins global purple air donation

Smart Air Bangladesh has emerged as the winner of the PurpleAir Donation Program 2025, marking a milestone as the country's first recipient of this prestigious award.
This achievement demonstrates Bangladesh's growing leadership in protecting public health and the environment through real-time pollution monitoring.
The win follows the "Vote for Clean Air" campaign that mobilized citizens across Bangladesh, emphasizing the need for air pollution sensors to monitor air quality. As a result, Smart Air Bangladesh will receive PurpleAir sensors to enhance understanding of air pollution across the country.
"This is a win for Bangladesh," said Boudewijn Sterk, Founder of Smart Air Bangladesh. The new sensors will help track pollution levels nationwide, enabling better policy and health decisions. Currently, Bangladesh only has 14 publicly accessible air quality sensors, most of which are located in Dhaka. Expanding monitoring to other regions will provide critical real-time data, especially for vulnerable populations. We encourage everyone to get involved in supporting and advocating for cleaner air across Bangladesh. In the coming months, Smart Air Bangladesh will deploy the PurpleAir sensors in key areas outside Dhaka, train local partners on data collection, and share the results with government and public health officials to support air quality initiatives.
Smart Air Bangladesh, a B-Corp certified social enterprise, has been working since 2019 to ensure that clean air is a right for all citizens.
